From the Environmental Defense Center:

The Chumash Heritage National Marine Sanctuary moved one step closer to designation! The proposed sanctuary is home to incredible biodiversity stretching over 140 miles of coastline and ocean habitats between the Monterey Bay and Channel Island sanctuaries. This area includes sacred submerged sites of the Chumash Peoples, important oceanographic features, and prime habitat for marine life. We appreciate the Northern Chumash Tribal Council’s leadership on this nomination process and will continue our advocacy for establishment of this sanctuary. NOAA will host virtual public meetings on December 8 and December 13, 2021, and January 6, 2022, during which members of the public can offer oral comments. Register now, as comments will be heard in the order of registration.
