When

Sunday, June 2
2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Event Type

Join politically motivated locals who regularly use Indivisible’s guide in penning letters and signs. Write or make mail art to whomever you want – it feels good and is tangible action. We are always interested in new resources and addresses.

There’s a lot of good stuff to work on this week.

  1. The volunteers at Detainee Allies love what we’ve been sending every week and, along with really encouraging notes, have sent us a spreadsheet of names of asylum seekers who have been indefinitely detained. This is really significant. Up until now we knew our cards were getting inside to individuals needing some moral support, but we weren’t writing to them by name with a way to get replies. Next level: The list has 255 people on it and includes the private detention centers where they are held. This is an invitation to help the handful of us to connect.
  2. Geographer Scott Warren is facing 20 years in jail for providing food and water to migrants in the desert. We will write to advocate that this kind of humanitarian aid is not criminal and that charges be dropped.

Pen Connection:
• Meets most Sundays
• We have writing supplies to share but can always use more stamps, cool pens, collage materials, etc, if you’ve get em!
• Coming for the beginning and bringing snacks are highly encouraged, but not terribly important.
• We try to strike a balance between discussion with solo writing time. There’s plenty of room for composing thoughts, but you may want to bring headphones 😉
• Write or make mail art to whomever you want. It feels good and is tangible action.
