Have a Disinfo-Disrupting Dialogue: To block the lies in 2024, we are trusted messengers (yes, we can even be influencers!) for our communities in real life as well as online. #TruthBrigade
- Impromptu Conversations: Use the Truth Sandwich framework to respond on the spot. Find simple ways to find common ground in this resource.
- Intentional Conversations: Deepen your conversation with experience-sharing tactics from the R.A.C.E method.
- rotect yourself: In any situation where you feel unsafe or uncomfortable, politely exit. We “win” when we maintain relationships and our own equanimity.

WHAT WE’RE SEEING NOW
Disinfo News
- Because the Trans Day of Visibility happened to coincide with Easter this year, unscrupulous anti-LGBTQ+ networks spread conspiracy theories falsely attributing anti-religious motives to anyone celebrating — even the White House
- In what we’d call the “who can be more evil” wars, as reported in The New Republic Candace Owens’ antisemitic trolling got Daily Wire’s Ben Shapiro mad enough to boot her from the show — which triggered a “tsunami” of support for Owens and antisemitism from right-wing influencers, and revealed the normalization of white nationalist hate speech
- The Heritage Foundation is doubling down on attacks on reproductive rights, with new commentary supporting restrictions on IVF and surrogacy nationally — part of their extreme Project 2025 agenda
Platform News
- In the hmmmmm department, Meta will stop recommending what it deems “political” content on your Instagram feed unless you opt in to it. Meta describes such content as “laws, elections or social topics.” Check out our instructions here on how you can update your account settings
- President Biden and the White House accounts on Threads turned on “Fediverse sharing” features making their accounts interoperate with Mastodon, WordPress, and other open networks. These are the first accounts of their type to do so.
RECOMMENDATIONS
- Follow Indivisible’s “X-Last” guidelines to push back.
- Build your reputation as a trusted messenger within your network. Post in more places (where you’re comfortable), and include tips as well as sandwiches.
- Consider a focus on Facebook online. It’s still where most people find information
- Hold intentional and casual offline conversations using non-confrontational tactics
