CURRENT MESSAGE CAMPAIGN: EARTH DAY IS EVERY DAY

Have a Disinfo-Disrupting Dialogue:  To block the lies in 2024, we are trusted messengers (yes, we can even be influencers!) for our communities in real life as well as online. #TruthBrigade

  • Impromptu Conversations: Use the Truth Sandwich framework to respond on the spot. Find simple ways to find common ground in this resource
  • Intentional Conversations: Deepen your conversation with experience-sharing tactics from the R.A.C.E method
  • Protect yourself: politely exit if you feel unsafe or uncomfortable

Disinfo-Buster of the Week: Personalize and Share this Message:
Snow in California; floods in Arizona: it’s easy to feel our climate crisis is unsolvable. Big Oil wants you to give up, and to mistrust real solutions, like the Clean Energy Plan. Don’t buy into their lies: change is happening now! #TruthBrigade #DisinfoBuster

Disinfo News

Platform News

  • A coalition of more than 200 nonprofits, online research organizations and civil society groups have sent an open letter to 12 major tech and social media companies. Urging them to ramp up their content moderation ahead of the upcoming elections in the US as well as across the globe, reports CyberScoop
  • This week, The Hill reported that Taiwanese groups outlined a major disinformation campaign employed by Chinese actors during Taiwan’s elections earlier this year, including deploying generative AI to manipulate videos and sow discord. According to Microsoft, China is using similar tactics in the US
  • Mashable covered a recent study from the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) that finds that anti-Jewish and anti-Muslim accounts have grown on X, formerly Twitter — gaining millions of new followers since the October 7 attack

RECOMMENDATIONS

  • Follow Indivisible’s “X-Last” guidelines to push back
  • Indivisible instructions to opt-in to receive political messaging on Meta here
  • Build your reputation as a trusted messenger within your network. Post in more places (where you’re comfortable), and include tips as well as sandwiches
  • Consider a focus on Facebook online. It’s still where most people find information
  • Continue to hold intentional and impromptu offline conversations
