ICE Out Of 805! 2026 TRUTH Act Forum
Our Sheriff Bill Brown works with ICE. On June 23, let’s tell him to stop.
The occasion? Each year, the Sheriff’s office must appear in a public forum—the TRUTH Act Forum—and list each time he turned folks in his custody over to ICE, for detention, torture and deportation. Sheriffs in many California counties don’t make these appearances … because they don’t cooperate with ICE. With few exceptions, no Sheriff is required to cooperate with ICE. But OUR Sheriff cooperates with ICE in every case where the law gives him discretion to do so.
What can we do to help protect our immigrant friends and neighbors? SHOW UP at the TRUTH Act Forum to tell the Sheriff to his face, we want him to stand up for us and not for ICE and Trump. The Forum will take place on Tuesday June 23 at 2 pm in Santa Maria, but you can attend remotely at the County’s office in Santa Barbara, or via Zoom. See instructions below.

You can participate in the TRUTH Act Forum and give public comment in the following ways:
• Live at the Board Hearing Room in Santa Maria located at 511 Lakeside Parkway. The Sheriff and Supervisors will be present in person at the Santa Maria location. Please arrive no later than 1:30 to sign up to give a public comment and find a seat.
• Remotely at the Board Hearing Room in Santa Barbara located at 105 East Anapamu Street, 4th Floor. Please arrive no later than 1:30 to sign up to give a public comment and find a seat.
• Remotely on Zoom. Register in advance for the Zoom meeting using THIS LINK. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing important information about joining the webinar and giving public comment.
• You can also submit a public comment for the TRUTH Act Forum by email. The deadline for doing so is 5:00 PM Monday June 22. Email your comment to the Clerk of the Board at: sbcob@countyofsb.org.
Public comments are likely to be limited to 1 or 2 minutes each, so please prepare to be brief. You don’t need to sound like an expert! Let the Supervisors know that the Sheriff’s collaboration with ICE is unacceptable to you, and if you’re comfortable doing so, tell the Supervisors how you and your neighbors are personally impacted by the actions of the Sheriff and federal immigration enforcement.
Here are examples of comments you might give:in person, remotely or by email. Begin by saying “good afternoon” to the Supervisors and giving your name and the city where you live. Then …
• Ending the Sheriff’s voluntary collaboration with ICE is a positive and necessary step in supporting equal due process and greater public safety for all. By separating local law enforcement agencies from federal immigration enforcement, the Sheriff can build trust with all residents in Santa Barbara County.
• No one should be held in concentration camp conditions, in a cramped and unsanitary space, with inadequate medical care and spoiled food, where they are subject to physical and sexual abuse. Our Sheriff should not be sending community members into these types of horrendous conditions.
• Sheriff Brown has never declined an ICE transfer request that he considered to be SB 54 eligible, even though California law gives him complete discretion to disregard those requests as many other sheriffs do. This is a clear case of aiding and abetting a system and institution that activity harms and may even result in the death of community members.
