Join Surfrider for an extremely fascinating and quite timely presentation by well known environmental activist and attorney Mark Massara about the Martin’s Beach access issue and its implications for the Coastal Act and the coastal Commission. As always there will be beer, pizza and lots of interesting surfers and environmentalists to meet before the presentation. Free to all.

Mark Massara is a surfer, attorney and environmental conservationist. He grew up on the Gaviota Coast in Santa Barbara County and has worked for decades with environmental organizations including Surfrider Foundation, Sierra Club, the Environmental Defense Center, Coastal Protection Network, Fish Reef Project, California CoastWalk and others.

Massara also works with local governments, ranchers and private property owners on compliance issues related to the Coastal Act and local land use regulations, laws and policies facilitating public beach access and natural resource protections.

Since 2010 Massara has served as General Counsel and Vice President of Sustainability at O’Neill Wetsuits in Santa Cruz CA. Massara often lectures on Coastal Act compliance and is involved in high profile Coastal Act litigation, including Surfrider Foundation v. Martins Beach 1 LLC et al., A1444268 & A145176 (CA Appls Crt., 1st Dist., Aug. 9, 2017).
