Help SPARC Save Democracy: Game Plan 2020

SPARC is thrilled to kick off the first speaker event of 2020 with Dr. Julia Morse on February 12.

Starting in the mid-2010s, democracies all over the world have turned toward right populist leaders who stand in stark contrast to those who pushed for international cooperation two decades earlier. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Boris Johnson, and our own Donald Trump exhibit xenophobic, nationalistic traits, a tendency toward authoritarianism, aggressive leadership, and an anti-elitist message.

Why is this happening and how will it affect global relations going forward? Dr. Morse will unpack it for us.

A little about Dr. Julia Morse

Dr. Morse is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at UCSB. Her research focuses on international organizations, with particular attention to information institutions and global governance. Dr. Morse received her PhD from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University, and holds a BA in Public Policy Studies and Political Science from Duke University.

She was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Pennsylvania’s Browne Center for International Politics. Prior to graduate school, she worked at the State Department as a Presidential Management Fellow and at the FBI as an Intelligence Analyst.

Held in the Ranchero Room (21 and older). Requested donation: $15. Please RVSP here; space is limited so a RSVP is encouraged. Feel free to extend this invitation to others and request their RSVP. There will be no-host bar so arrive early to place your drink order. For more information, email sbsparc@gmail.com.
