After years of advocacy by countless tenants, the City of Santa Barbara is finally in the middle of drafting a Rent Stabilization Ordinance — and we need to make sure that it’s the strongest ordinance possible.

The Santa Barbara Tenants Union is excited to share the People’s Rent Stabilization Ordinance, a draft written by tenants, for tenants, to illustrate what a truly effective ordinance could look like.

Join us on Monday, May 11th for a discussion on the People’s Rent Stabilization Ordinance. During this discussion, we’ll cover:

  • how much rent increases would be
  • which type of housing units this would apply to
  • other details of the ordinance

The discussion will be led in person by fellow members of the Santa Barbara Tenants Union, who will discuss the main policy points and answer questions.

We highly encourage you to read the ordinance and this 4-page summary to better understand what this ordinance would mean for you, what type of units it would cover, and answers to other frequently asked questions.
