When

Sunday, February 23
2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Event Type

Join politically motivated locals who regularly use Indivisible’s guide in penning letters and signs. Write or make mail art to whomever you want – it feels good and is tangible action. We are always interested in new resources and addresses.

We will be starting up a new campaign to make cards for children in immigration detention.  This has taken a series of varied attempts, but this week we got a very gratifying email within an email, from a new contact at Rep. Salud Carbajal’s office:

ORR has let me know that cards can be sent to the HQ office in DC, and ORR will distribute the cards to facilities. Cards with stickers or other decorative items glued to them as your email below describes are acceptable. Cards can be distributed on a monthly basis.

We’ve been told that after some reorganization, our new contact at the Office of Refugee Resettlement is genuinely enthusiastic about our project.  Pen Connection is looking forward to sending LOTS of cards and establishing direct communication with her!  Please join us in putting objects of beauty and compassion into the hands of the children in US detention facilities.  They haven’t been in the news lately, but they are there.

Walk it forward!

Pen Connection:
• Meets most Sundays
• We have writing supplies to share but can always use more stamps, cool pens, collage materials, etc, if you’ve get em!
• Coming for the beginning and bringing snacks are highly encouraged, but not terribly important.
• We try to strike a balance between discussion with solo writing time. There’s plenty of room for composing thoughts, but you may want to bring headphones 😉
• Write or make mail art to whomever you want. It feels good and is tangible action.
