Using the excellent resource material from the Foreign Policy Association, including its DVD, the Great Decisions Foreign Policy Association Discussion Group program will explore the leading eight subjects that confront the US in 2018. Participants will need the “briefing book” published by the Foreign Policy Association, which can be ordered from USSB or from the FPA website. For further information, feel free to contact John Warnock, the project coordinator.

The third meeting topic will be China: Economic Power and Geopolitics, by David Lampton. Over the past several years, China has implemented an expansive strategy of economic diplomacy in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond. Where the United States has taken a step back from multilateral trade agreements and discarded the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), China has made inroads through initiatives like One Belt, One Road and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). What are China’s geopolitical objectives? What do its actions mean for the international balance of power, and how should the United States respond?

Great Decisions program meets on alternate Wednesdays from February 7 through May 16. For more information about this meeting’s topic and future topics in the program, visit Great Decisions Foreign Policy Discussion Group.
