For the last year, EDC has served on a Technical Advisory Committee through the City of Goleta to help establish a plan to enhance and maintain healthy creeks throughout the City. The Goleta Creek and Watershed Management Plan (CWMP) will protect and enhance creek habitats, ensure clean water, restore stream flows, create opportunities for passive recreation and nature-based learning, and will ensure effective and environmentally-sound flood control management.
Please join EDC in urging the Goleta City Council to approve and establish a program to implement the proposed Goleta Creek and Watershed Management Plan at their hearing on Tuesday, November 17 at 5:30 P.M. (Agenda)

1.   EMAIL:
Submit your comments to the City Council via email (cityclerkgroup@cityofgoleta.org) prior to 12p.m. PST on Tuesday, November 17th. Please state in your email that you would like your comments read into the record at the hearing.
2.   JOIN THE VIRTUAL MEETING:
The November 17 hearing will be held electronically on GoToWebinar. Please use the following link to register, after which you will receive a confirmation email with information on how to join. Additional information on how to join City Council hearings electronically can be found here.

Please consider the following talking points in your comments, in addition to your personal additions:
  1. I urge you to adopt and implement the Creek and Watershed Management Plan, and request that the Plan be incorporated into the Conservation Element of the City’s General Plan.  [You may add your personal reasons for supporting the Plan.]
  2. The Plan should be developed into a staffed City Program under the Public Works Department, as recommended in the Plan, or in another Department. Creating a City Creeks Program will ensure that the Plan is implemented and provides the intended public benefits such as creek restoration and clean water.
  3. The City should create and appoint a public Creek and Watershed Management Advisory Committee to guide the Program, and to vet priorities and creek and watershed enhancement projects.
Please feel free to contact me by email (btrautwein@environmentaldefensecenter.org) with any further information or questions on how to particpate in the November 17 hearing.
