Join the Coastal Fund for a free film screening of Broke: The Santa Barbara Oil Pipeline Spill of 2015.
This one-hour environmental story started at Refugio State Park during the afternoon that the Plains All-American Pipeline, line 901, burst on May 19, 2015 and spilled 140,000 gallons of crude oil into the Gaviota coast and ocean. Crude oil tumbled in the surf, sent toxic fumes in the air, and killed over 300 sea birds and marine mammals. The story is told by fishermen and fisherwomen, ranchers who were diagnosed with chemical pneumonia, pipeline safety experts, environmental leaders, public officials, and the spokesman for Plains All-American Co.
Producer and Director, UCSB Adjunct Professor Gail Osherenko will join other faculty and community members for a post-screening discussion.
