As Congress considers the GOP tax plan, join the Office of the External Vice President for Statewide Affairs and Congressman Salud Carbajal (CA-24) for a discussion on how the plan could hurt undergraduate and graduate students.

Currently, the plan stands to increase our taxes by thousands of dollars each year, as it attempts to eliminate the student loan interest deduction. In 2014, over one million California students and graduates claimed $1.06 billion dollars under this tax deduction that is now at risk.

As a first-generation college student, Carbajal will discuss why he voted against this bill that would increase the cost of attending college by more than $65 billion dollars in the next decade, making college and graduate education unaffordable for many. He will also touch on the work he’s doing to combat the trillion dollar student loan debt crisis and to make higher education more accessible and affordable for all.
