Dr. Eileen Boris, UCSB Hull Professor of Women’s History, Black Studies and Global Studies, will speak on the Labor Feminists of the New Deal. There was Eleanor Roosevelt; Frieda Miller, the head of the US Women’s Bureau under President Truman; Florence Kelley, the social and political reformer who championed government regulation to protect working women and children: and the poet, activist and author Charlotte Perkins Gilman. The presentation, along with several meaningful documents, will also feature two particular women of the Labor Movement: the pioneer, Francis Perkins and the “Mother” of social work, Jane Addams.
